About the event
COURSE AIM:
The Paediatric Cardiology Update Course is specifically designed for those who want clear answers to questions regarding the management of children with cardiac problems and those who want to become confident in the interpretation of paediatric ECGs.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This highly recommended course will take you through all practical aspects of paediatric cardiology and will cover the key topics in congenital and acquired heart disease. Learning will be enhanced by the use of real-life examples and clinical scenarios, as well as interactive question and answer sessions after each lecture. An important part of this one-day event will be an interactive ECG interpretation workshop.
The faculty for this course consists of consultants and senior registrars. Almost all speakers are from the cardiology service at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Selected topics are covered by experts in paediatric nephrology, intensive care and clinical genetics.
The course will give you the confidence and skills to effectively manage cardiac patients in your daily practice. Candidates will also gain the ability to interpret paediatric ECGs.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Acquire the ability to interpret paediatric ECGs
- Develop an approach to investigating and managing children with syncope
- Know how to approach a child with palpitations
- Describe the principles of management of children with chest pain
- Discuss the management of common congenital heart defects
- Explore differential diagnosis of various cardiac presentations in A&E
- Know how to approach a patient with myocarditis
- Understand more about Kawasaki disease
- Discuss the investigation and management of infective endocarditis
- Develop a clinical approach for the investigation and management of systemic hypertension
- Explore common genetic syndromes associated with cardiac disease
- Practise and assess your knowledge and skills through clinical scenarios
